They_re now the THIRD state in the union to legalize the recreational use of marijuana A new measure that was approved in November took effect Tuesday. It lets people 21 and older carry up to an ounce of pot and own up to six plants. Now, that doesn_t mean you can go light one up in public. That_s still strictly off-limits and carries a hundred dollar fine. Regulations for the retail sale of pot are still being ironed out, and in Anchorage, city organizers are planning an ad campaign on how to safely use the drug.The US Department of Veterans Affairs has been rocked by yet another scandal. Secretary Robert McDonald issued an apology on Monday for lying about having served in an elite special forces unit. The incident occurred last month during an overnight event with homeless vets in LA. McDonald was filmed telling an ex-special ops veteran that he had also been in special forces. He took over as Secretary last summer for retired Army General Eric Shinseki, who resigned in the wake of a massive scandal involving poor medical care for VA patients. And the death toll linked to defective General Motors ignition switches has now risen to 57. GM has hired a team of legal experts to compile a list of eligible claims for compensation. Nearly five hundred death claims have been submitted, but only the 57 eligible will receive payment. Each approved claim is worth at least one million dollars, and so far GM is on the hook for close to one hundred million dollars. The process is far from over. Last year the automaker put aside 400 million dollars to cover the costs of the lawsuits. Don_t go away.

Here is Isabella Rossini.Kat, we_ll begin with Brian Williams who has just been given a six month suspension, without pay, due to his repeated lies about coming under enemy fire during the Iraq War. NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke called Williams_ actions inexcusable, saying that he had jeopardized the trust millions of Americans had placed in NBC News. However, Burke added that Williams deserved a second chance. The suspension will cost the NBC Nightly News anchorman an estimated five million dollars.Williams isn_t the only media personality in the news today, Daily Show host Jon Stewart STUNNED fans on Tuesday evening with the announcement that he_s leaving the show later this year. Stewart_s been the face of the program for more than fifteen years, but he told the audience that it was time for someone else to have the opportunity. When exactly he_ll choose to sign off remains unclear. His contract expires in September, but he says he could leave as early as July or as late as December. He will be sorrily missed Kat, back to you. We_ll have more on Brian Williams and John Stewart in the wrap up. In other news today, it_s another MAJOR milestone for Apple. The tech giant has just become America_s FIRST, 700 BILLION dollar company When it comes to value, Apple is truly in a league of its own. The next largest company is Exxon Mobil, and they_re worth a paltry 382 billion. Apple_s value was given a boost with the announcement of a new partnership with First Solar. They_re building a 3-thousand acre solar energy farm that will funnel electricity to Apple_s new campus in Silicon Valley. It_s true Carli, we all know automated cars aren_t too far off, but self-driving trucks are right behind em. A car I can see, but a self driving truck sort of makes me nervous. Don_t worry, there_s still a person behind the wheel but it COULD have a lot of benefits. Here_s the story. Freightliner has gotten a license to test out self-driving tractor-trailer trucks in Nevada. As I mentioned, there_s still someone behind the wheel, but since the truck_s computer does most of the driving, that person can focus on other tasks, like planning the next pickup. Automated trucks could also save big on fuel costs by driving in a tight formation along highways, with one right behind the other. The robotic big-rigs look to be the future of highway transport. This badass tank should be familiar to anyone who_s seen the new Mad Max movie. It_s ironically called the Peacemaker, and it was custom-built and designed for the blockbuster flick. Hard to believe that this mean machine can reach a top speed of 70 miles per hour It_s all thanks to its monstrous thousand horsepower engine. If you happen to see one out on the road do NOT make the driver angryMaserati has been teasing us with details about its new SUV, the Levante, for what feels like forever. But it looks like it_ll finally make its debut at the Detroit Motor Show next year. An early version of the vehicle first appeared in 2011 and the company has been tweaking the design ever since. The only thing we know for sure is that the price will range from 80,000 to 150,000 dollars. Here_s proof that flying cars MIGHT not be such a great idea after all. This photo shows an AeroMobil prototype that crashed during a test flight in Slovakia. Luckily, it_s inventor and pilot managed to parachute to safety when things went wrong. No one was hurt, but you can imagine the carnage if this thing had come down over a crowded urban area instead of a wide open field. Nevertheless, the AeroMobil is slated to go into production in 2017.And we_ll finish up at the track for a race unlike anything you_ve ever seen before In Quebec Canada, two 2400 horsepower trucks - carrying more than 70 tons of wood - lined up for the ultimate drag race Totally ridiculous, and totally awesome That_ll do it for this edition of Wheelz.
