Welcome one and all to Naked News I_m Marina Valmont. The northeastern US is still reeling in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. But there IS some light at the end of the tunnel for the millions of people affected. Here_s senior anchor Victoria Sinclair to tell us more. Vic?Marina some businesses are expected to re-open on Wednesday as the region continues to count the cost of the super storm. One of those businesses is the New York Stock Exchange. It was closed for 2 consecutive days marking the first time that_s happened since 1888. JFK and Newark airports are set to re-open as well all be it for limited service.LaGuardia remains closed because it_s runways are still submerged under water. It_ll still take a few days before the New York Subway system is re-opened and millions of people across the northeast might have to wait a little longer for their power to be restored. The estimated cost of cleanup has ballooned to between 30 or 40 billion dollars.One of the worst hit areas was New Jersey. But as they struggle to recover their governor has found what some people think is an unlikely ally. Katherine Curtis has the story.Vic New Jersey_s bombastic governor Chris Christie has his plate full dealing with the after-effects of Sandy. He_s set to tour disaster areas with President Barack Obama. Christie who_s a very vocal supporter of Mitt Romney has had nothing but enthusiastic praise of the President over his handling of the disaster calling his support wonderful. But the state has a lot of work ahead of it. Christie called the devastation unthinkable while Newark mayor Cory Booker warned that they were going to have a quote challenging time ahead. Back to the President Kat I understand that Christie and Obama pretty much ignored the fact that there_s an election coming up in a week.That_s right - in Christie_s own words quote ...not once did he (the president) bring up the election... If he_s not bringing it up I_m certainly not going to bring it up.I guess that would make for an awkward conversation. Keep us updated Kat and thanks for the report. The effects of Hurricane Sandy are being felt elsewhere throughout the political arena. Though the election is just days away the storm has dominated the lion_s share of media coverage. It_s also derailed several campaign stops for both Mitt Romney and President Obama with Romney converting one rally into a storm relief event. To further complicate matters Sandy has thrown a wrench into Florida_s early voting process which could lead to a decrease in voter turnout along the eastern seaboard.
